How To Get A Good Deal On Flights

On travel forums, tales of woe are very common. Often, these horror stories happen because the person was not prepared as well as they should have been when they went on vacation. Follow the tips mentioned in this article and you should be able to plan a great vacation.

When traveling by air, you need to plan ahead. Airports are often located near large cities, and reaching them during peak traffic times of the day can take much longer then you might expect. Pack your bags the night before you leave on your trip. Make all the preparations you need well before your flight. Missing a flight is one of the worst things that can happen.

It is important to keep a photograph of your child on you, in case they wander away. A lost child is one of the most frightening things a parent can face. Children can sometimes become lost when traveling due to the crowds or the unfamiliar location. When you have a photo of the child with you, it can make a big difference in finding them fast if they become lost.

Try exercising prior to flying. Long flights are found to be hard to sit through. Your legs and back can cramp up from sitting a long time. Stretching beforehand, or doing some quick warm-up routines can help keep aches and leg cramps at bay.

Take a couple of clothespins with you when you travel. While you might not think of them immediately, clothespins can perform many functions.

Make sure your passport isn’t expired. Most countries have explicit rules regarding your passport. You may not be allowed into their country if your passport is expiring in a certain amount of time. As long as the passport is not set to expire within the next six months, you should be fine for most countries; however, certain countries require eight months, or even up to one year.

Exercise before you get on the airplane. This will not only help you to work out pre-flight jitters, it will also warm up your muscles to help you avoid cramps during a long flight. Sitting in one position for a long period of time can cramp up your legs and back. You will be more relaxed during your flight and can help avoid body aches by stretching before your flight.

While you should talk to your doctor beforehand to ensure it is advisable, taking a sleeping pill might be the answer to an otherwise taxing flight. Lots of people aren’t comfortable sleeping on planes, because the place isn’t familiar, the seats are uncomfortable, and the passengers and airplane make noise. To get through your flight as painless as possible, take a sleeping pill to help ensure you can fall asleep. Don’t take any pills until after the plan has taken off. If there is an issue or delay you would be sleeping in the terminal!

Start by subscribing to e-newsletters from the major airlines. These e-newsletters will give you access to last-minute offers, special discounts and other deals that may not be available to anyone else. Yes, they will probably clutter your email, but you’ll save a good amount of money by putting up with this small problem.

Get yourself a National Parks Pass if you think you will be visiting often. The pass is $50, and it can be used at any of the parks for a year.

As stated initially in this guide, prospective travelers may need to make a lot of decisions, and some find this to be intimidating. If you take the time to learn a little bit about how to plan a vacation, you will find that it doesn’t have to be difficult. Apply the advice in this article and be on your way to making great travel plans.

I’m interested in traveling to Preth Australia this Christmas to visit a friend and I’ve never traveled further than Disney World. I’d like to know if anyone found any good deals on flights and hotels around the Perth area. I’m hoping to go for 2 weeks.
Any good restaurants and attractions that you’d think I’d like. I’m 20 and this will be my first vacation by myself.

    Hope you can help, thanks!

My friends and I are trying to book a vacation. Some of us will be flying out of Ottawa while some others will be flying out of Toronto. We thought it would be a good idea to try a Flight+Hotel deal, however we can’t seem to find a website that does Flight+Hotel deals with flights departing from 2 different airports. Does anyone know where (ie. website) we could look up a deal like this?

I am looking to take a trip up to Las Vegas from Sacramento. Not sure where to go to get the good deals. If anyone knows where to find package deals on flight and hotel, I would really appreciate it. I’ve heard people talk about even getting several nights of free hotel stays, is this true? Thanks everyone for your replies.

I’m in Thailand right now. I want to travel somewhere for the next week or so, but don’t have a clear idea in mind of where I want to go.

Rather than clicking through hundreds of locations one by one I would like to find a list of last minute deals on flights from Bangkok to anywhere that I could choose from. Ideally these would be flights leaving withing the next couple of days.

I’m 18 getting ready to graduate high school. I really have no desire to do any further schooling, it’s not that I’m dumb or anything, it’s just school is just not my thing. I love flying as well as traveling. What’s the deal with flight attendants? How much do they make? How much do you work? Anything I should know? Thanks!

i am planning to go to rome with my girlfriend late june-july 2011, im trying to plan in advance to get a cheaper deal, flights there and back i can get for under £300, but in rome and surrounding areas but still local how expensive is it, i have heard trains are cheap but everything else about rome screams out pricesy, so how much will be an ideal spending cost for 2 people for accomodation mid-range and food and small extras.

So, me and some friends are kind of adventurous. Only problem is we are poor as well lol. We are thinking about finding super deal flights online to a different city. Then renting a car for a couple of days and everyone sleeping in that car somewhere hidden to cut on rent payments. Is that illegal? If so what could happen to us for doing that?

  • Deanne Valle 11th November 2013 at 11:46 pm

If a flight in November is currently $900, how much is it likely to have risen in two months’ time? International, USA to UK, if that makes a difference?

  • Guadalupe Kropfelder 13th November 2013 at 2:24 pm

I’m looking into visiting a friend in Perth in a few months time, but since another friend has also suggested that I drop and see them in Phuket on the way for a few days. Therefore I am looking for flights which allow a stopover. I have started looking at flights and pricing them up, but the stopover seems to be causing me problems, both in price and finding appropriate flights. Can anyone suggest a good company or website that specialise in these kind of deals/flights, or a good way of doing it from experience? Thanks!!!

  • Lizbeth Gravat 13th November 2013 at 2:27 pm

I’m planning a 2 week vacation (within the US) for July and have been searching for good deals on flight tickets. For all of you seasoned travellers…when would you say is the best time to purchase the tickets? A month in advance, or a few months in advance? I’m looking for the best (less expensive deals) that I can find .

Also, are there any good websites for searching for good deals on flights?

    Thank you!

  • Evia Vandesteene 14th November 2013 at 7:52 am

I will fly from JFK (NYC), probably next summer. I want to know what site I could be watching for deals for flights. I’ve heard people getting tickets for $450. Where can get alerted for these quick offers? By the way, the destination is either Paris or Rome. Which airport is cheapest to land around these places? Maybe even London? Where would you recommend visiting? Basically looking for good deals! Thanks!

I am 30 years old and am interested in looking for a career change in aviation. I currently work for southwest airlines (5 years and counting) and have an FAA airline dispatching license, but I want to take my career to another level and improve my resume and experience by going into either the air force or navy reserve. I have a bachelor and a masters degree. However they are in marketing and sports management. At the time when I was in school I wanted to be a sports agent, but I wasn’t really a big fan of the industry as I found out that it was too shady and cutthroat. Anyways, I found a new passion in aviation which was a passion I have had since I was a kid so I am trying to pursue a career as a dispatcher or whatever I can in aviation. I know I’m too old to be a pilot in the military which is fine and I have talked to a recruiter in the air force, took the ASVAB and scored above average, passed the physical but I have not signed the contract yet because I don’t know what job to pick. I also would like to see what the navy has in store as well as it might have more opportunities for me. I have not taken an oath yet for the airforce so i can still look at the navy if I want to. I would like a job that deals with flight and weather planning along with organizing aviation charts and maps. However, I’m starting to wonder whether I should start to see if I can go into it as an officer. The recruiter at the air force said because I have a degree in business the only officer position I may get is in finance or something of that nature which I have no interest in doing and I don’t want to get stuck in the military with a job I don’t want. The recuiter did say that I can go in enlisted and start off as a SENIOR AIRMEN straight out of BMT and tech school then go for an NCO or apply for a commissioned officer program which I heard is almost impossible nowadays. I don’t know if the navy is the same. i need to talk to a recruiter for them as well. I guess my question is what should I do as far joining enlisted or officer? Should I go enlisted and hope for the best. Also is the Navy a better option than the air force. I know I’m asking a lot but any help would be great.

Also, was my recruiter correct when she said the air force puts more emphasis on the actual degree you have? Because I hear the army and marines will take anyone with any type of degree. Is the Navy the same way?

So I’m checking out orbitz, expedia, travelocity, continental, aa, and trying to find the best package deal for flight + hotel + car. I’m thinking I could maybe get a better deal if I didn’t do the package. Anyone tried planning a trip by piecing it all together yourself? Did it turn out cheaper or more expensive?
